I need your help to make sure all the clubs, groups and organisations with great initiatives and activities know about our awards. You could help raise awareness, by promoting on your social platforms, speaking with your clubs and most importantly - entering the awards yourself.
As the project manager for the awards programme, I’m looking for inspirational clubs or groups that, through their activities or exciting community project, have increased participation in sport and recreation.
There are around 150,000 grassroots sports clubs across the country, all helping our nation to keep active, but they also help people to develop important life skills such as leadership and teamwork. Not only that, they serve as invaluable social hubs within their communities, bringing people together and providing opportunities to participate and volunteer in sport and recreation.
The Community Sport and Recreation Awards are free and simple to enter, and you could help your club win £1,000, which can go towards funding new projects or buying equipment. We are looking for projects and initiatives that work with all ages, abilities and backgrounds and here are some examples of what previous winners have done with their prize money:
I believe that grassroots sport and recreation is enormously undervalued in the UK and the hours of commitment that clubs and projects put into their local communities deserve recognition for going the extra mile. When a club wins, they’ll gain recognition for their own work – but also help raise the profile of all the great work taking place across grassroots sport and recreation.
Many grassroots clubs are doing brilliant work but with limited funding. I have volunteered and competed in both Martial Arts and Athletics for many years so know this all too well. It would have made a huge difference if the clubs I was involved with knew about the awards as the money would have helped them continue their valuable work and even take it to the next level.
The closing date for entries is Sunday 30 April.
