Mike Goody, who won four gold medals in swimming at the 2014 and 2016 Invictus Games, will share his personal experience on how to stay positive in challenging times of change. Nicknamed the “prince of the pool”, Mike had his leg amputated below the knee in 2011, three years after he was injured in Afghanistan.

As the sector continues evolve and with new strategies from the Government and Sport England continuing their integration next year, the Convention has been constructed to help delegates guide their organisation through these changes.

As well as delivering workshops that will enable delegates to practically focus on some of the key changes facing the sector; inspirational speakers, like Mike Goody, will challenge delegates to think about the different ways to approach change.

Mike Goody commented:Change has been a significant factor in my life – from becoming an amputee and going on to be an eight-time Invictus Games gold medal winner. It has been challenging to predict the road ahead.  Now as I embark on my quest to be a Paralympic Athlete in either or both swimming and triathlon, I am required to identify how I can adapt and manage the change needed to achieve my goal. I hope my story, will inspire and motivate the delegates at the Leadership Convention to lead for change and provide them with some insight about how to stay positive in challenging times.”

Mike is an ambassador for the Swimming Teacher’s Association’s Open Water Swimming and Water Safety campaign. Through the scheme, Mike wants to share his passion for swimming and raise awareness of the importance of learning to swim as a key life skill.
