Time to Talk Day: Let's get chatting about mental health

Time to Talk Day: Let's get chatting about mental health news article image

The annual campaign, organised by Time to Change, aims to end the isolation and shame that too many of us with mental health problems are made to feel - and with poor mental health now effecting one in four of us, this has never been more important.

This year, Time to Talk Day is using the popular game ‘Would you rather?’ to help break the ice and get the conversation flowing. We encourage you to join us and organisations across the country in getting athletes, coaches, fans and local communities to open up to each other, to talk and to listen.

You’ll find plenty of tips, ideas and resources on how you can get involved here.

Sport and recreation can play a huge part in sparking conversations about mental health, whether that’s in the stands, at the club house or in the changing rooms. It provides a natural environment for an established social community network which helps facilitate engagement in mental health awareness.

The Alliance continues to ask its members and the wider sector to support the Mental Health Charter for Sport and Recreation which was launched in March 2015 with Mind and the Professional Players Federation. The Charter works with over 300 organisations to promote mental wellbeing through sport and physical activity.

Having these all-important conversations can make a big difference to many people. The more we talk, the more lives we can change.
