Last week Tim Lamb championed the Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) scheme live on Sky Sports News.
The Sport and Recreation Alliance has long been a supporter of the scheme, which since its inception in 2002 has seen community sports clubs save nearly £140 million.
Becoming a CASC, amongst other benefits, enables clubs to receive 80% mandatory business rate relief and allows them to reclaim vital extra income on Gift Aid.
More than 6,000 clubs have signed up to the CASC scheme to date – but this is still just a fraction of the tens of thousands of other sports clubs across the UK who could benefit from it financially.
Behind the scenes, the Alliance has been lobbying hard to make it easier for more clubs to achieve CASC status, as well as to bring about additional benefits to the scheme like subs for clubs, and it will soon be time for us all to have our say.
The Government is due to open a public consultation on the CASC scheme in the coming months which will focus on creating greater flexibility on club eligibility – covering issues such as membership fee levels, social income, travel expenses and payments to players.
The Alliance will be co-ordinating the response for sport and will also provide guidance on how you can reply to the consultation yourself once it has been published.
