Lawrence Dallaglio OBE was the winner of the 2016 Arthur Bell Trophy, which is awarded to individuals or organisations that lead and champion sport for social good in the community, in recognition of his work through the Dallaglio Foundation and the charity’s RugbyWorks programme.
On hand to help present Dallaglio with his Award was incoming President of the RFU, Peter Baines and a third-year student from the RugbyWorks programme Gui Scodeler, who was able to give a first-hand account of the impact the programme has had on his life.
Michael de Giorgio, co-founder and Chief Executive of Greenhouse Sports and Alan Sommerville OBE, a former President and CEO of British Gymnastics, were presented Emeritus Awards. Emeritus Awards are presented to individuals who have given life-long or sustained service to sport in the community.
Michael was presented with the award for his sustained service to develop life skills for young people in some of London’s most disadvantaged communities through intensive sports programmes delivered by inspirational coaches. Alan was rewarded for his long-standing efforts at British Gymnastics to improve governance in the sport and raise its public profile.
