Earlier this week the Sport and Recreation Alliance hosted a meeting to share best practice for treating concussion in sport.
The Alliance has facilitated a meeting between its members to try and raise awareness of concussion as an issue and increase the consistency of medical advice, reporting, guidelines, and suspension periods across sport.
The meeting was attended by representatives from English Lacrosse Association, British American Football Association, England Basketball, British Eventing, British Equestrian Federation, British Cycling and the Rugby Football Union.
James Allen, Head of Policy, at the Sport and Recreation Alliance thinks the sharing of knowledge is key in treating concussions in sport.
“Concussion is a cross-sport issue which must be taken seriously. Many of our members already have excellent systems in place to keep their participants as safe as possible and it’s fantastic that they have been forthcoming in sharing their knowledge.
“The more sporting organisations understand concussion, and how other sports are dealing with it, the better equipped they will be to ensure their own participants safety.
"The Alliance will be looking further at how we can help our members to manage concussion in sport over the coming months and we’d like to hear more about what others are doing in this area. If you'd like to be involved then do please get in touch.”
