Sports Betting Group's refreshed Code gives sports bodies the tools to combat risks of betting corruption

The event entitled, ‘Are you playing integrity?’, is being hosted by the Sports Betting Integrity Forum and is bringing together representatives from sports bodies, betting operators, the Gambling Commission and law enforcement to highlight the work currently underway at a national level to tackle sports betting corruption and the help available to sports governing bodies to minimise risks to integrity.

There are seven key actions sports governing bodies should take to protect integrity highlighted in the refreshed Code. These include practical, real-world examples drawn from Sports Betting Group members designed to help governing bodies to apply the Code within their own sports.

Together with the refreshed Code of Practice, the new website will provide sports governing bodies and wider stakeholders in the sports betting field with a central resource containing information and good practice including betting rules, reporting contacts and educational material.

Emma Boggis, Chair of the Sports Betting Group said: “The Sports Betting Group is committed to making sure sports governing bodies have the knowledge and tools to put in place effective measures to address the risks of sports betting corruption. Sports betting is evolving fast and we have worked to refresh the Code of Practice to ensure it remains fit for purpose and to create a new website to provide governing bodies with the resources they need to protect their sports.”

Minister for Sport, Tracey Crouch said: 

"The integrity of sport is absolutely paramount and no stone can be left unturned in the fight against corruption.  

“Ensuring the Gambling Commission, sports bodies, law enforcement agencies and betting operators are all aligned is crucial and the new code of practice will help on this front. It also complements the new Governance Code that Sport England and UK Sport will be publishing later this year, ensuring the highest levels of transparency in British sport."
