The Sport and Recreation Alliance's Community Sport and Recreation Awards were held today at St. James’s Palace, hosted by the Alliance’s President HRH the Earl of Wessex.
The Community Sport and Recreation Awards have been running for 20 years, showcasing the sport and recreation organisations performing excellent work in their local communities.
Hundreds of excellent applicants where whittled down to just six winners – all of whom demonstrate just why grassroots sport and recreation are so important.
This year there are six categories of awards all designed to highlight the breadth of work that is undertaken in the community sport and recreation sector. This winners of the 2014 awards are:

Commenting on the awards, Sallie Barker, Interim Chief Executive of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, said:
“The Community Sport and Recreation Awards demonstrate the vital work that is going on at the grassroots.
“From the organisations providing youngsters with a pathway from school playgrounds to active adulthood, to the clubs making sure that their army of helpers are supported and encouraged to develop – these winners are the perfect advert for how our sector enriches lives.”
Also honoured at the awards was Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson who received the prestigious Arthur Bell trophy for her contribution to grassroots sport.
Peter Thomas and Cedric Selby were also awarded Emeritus Awards.
The Sport and Recreation Alliance were delighted to facilitate a Parliamentary launch for a new research report ‘The Social Value of Group Exercise’, commissioned by EMD UK, the national governing body for group exercise.
