Sport and Recreation Alliance announce board appointments

Sport and Recreation Alliance announce board appointments news article image

Monica is appointed for a second term having been on the Alliance’s board for a year, filling a casual vacancy. Throughout her working career, Monica has proven to be a strategic thinker with in-depth knowledge of the charity and sport sectors.

Barry brings over 25 years of senior executive experience to the board. As Chief Executive of the Activity Alliance, Barry has been a strong supporter of getting more disabled people into leadership positions.

Working to engage with the disabled community, the least active group in society, he is an advocate of the power and potential of sport and active recreation to transform lives.

Sport and Recreation Alliance Chair, Andrew Moss, who has also been reappointed to his position for a second three-year term to commence from September this year, welcomed the appointments.

He said: “I’m excited to welcome Barry to the board and am also pleased that we will continue to be able to draw on Monica’s experience. Barry has been a keen supporter of our work and we look forward to drawing on his expertise as we continue to encourage more people from under-represented groups into sport and physical activity.

Monica has already shown to be a valuable asset to the board and we hope to be able to continue to draw on her expertise in the mental health and wellbeing sector to support our work in this area. I am confident that they will both provide a wealth of diverse knowledge and skills which will further improve the work we deliver.

We would also like to place on record our thanks to long serving board members Jane Bateman and Andy Reed OBE who will be stepping down from their roles. I am pleased that, as a past Chairman of the Alliance, Andy will now become a Vice President.

Personally, I am delighted to be re-appointed as Alliance Chair and will continue to work on behalf our members and the sector as a whole to create an active nation.”

Barry and Monica will be joined on the Alliance Board by Paralympic Champion and Chair of the British Paralympic Association Athletes Commission, Helene Raynsford, who was announced to be taking the role of Elected Director in June.

All of the new Directors will serve three-year terms commencing from 25 September 2018.
