These appointments make sure that the Alliance board is balanced, inclusive and highly skilled, while reflecting the diversity of our membership and the sport and recreation sector more broadly. This is an important part of our fit for the future objective within The Heart of an Active Nation, our recently published 2017-2021 strategy.

The recruitment process used to appoint Lizzie, Monica and Caroline follows the approach set out in our new governance framework, The Principles of Good Governance for Sport and Recreation, which supports all of our members in achieving the highest standards of good governance.

Lizzie, Caroline and Monica replace Brendon Batson OBE, Nick Bunting and Mike Power OBE who all step down from the board in July.

Andrew Moss, Chair of the Sport and Recreation Alliance said, “I’m very excited to welcome Lizzie, Caroline and Monica to our board. The three of them bring a wealth of diverse experience, complement the existing skills we have on the board and will undoubtedly bring fresh perspectives, insights and energy to the table.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Brendon, Nick and Mike for their invaluable service to the Sport and Recreation Alliance over the past few years and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.”

Emma Boggis, Chief Executive of the Alliance added: “Lizzie, Monica and Caroline join the Alliance at an important and exciting time for our organisation given the recent publication of our new strategy, The Heart of an Active Nation. They bring expertise and experience from the worlds of education, social care, youth development and governance, all of which complement the future focus of our organisation.”

Lizzie and Caroline have been appointed for three year terms while Monica has been appointed to a casual vacancy on the board for a 12-month term.
