It is with great sadness that the Sport and Recreation Alliance has learnt of the death of Colin Myrone at the age of 72, after a period of illness.
Colin became Chairman of the West of England Amateur Rowing Association in 1975, and was elected President of the organisation in 1984 – forging close links with the Amateur Rowing Association (now British Rowing) during his time as Chairman. He also represented the Federation of South West Sports at the Alliance's Regional Committee and attended the Games and Sports Division.
British Rowing have paid tribute on their website. We include their obituary below:
He became a life member of WEARA in 1998, and was also a life member of Plymouth Amateur Rowing Club and Exeter Rowing Club.
“Many in the rowing world will be aware of Colin's great contribution to our sport over his lifetime,” said current WEARA Chairman Ray Mallet, “including the years of service to the Southwest Foundation for Sport and the Arts, and many other organisations in which Colin represented rowing interests for such a long time.
“Chris Moyse of Plymouth ARC has advised that Colin passed away on the 14th August, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family as well as the membership of Plymouth ARC at this sad time.”
The Sport and Recreation Alliance were delighted to facilitate a Parliamentary launch for a new research report ‘The Social Value of Group Exercise’, commissioned by EMD UK, the national governing body for group exercise.
