Ofqual, the exams regulator, has opened a consultation looking at how a range of GCSEs and A/AS Levels, including dance, should be assessed from September 2016.
This consultation sits alongside a parallel Department for Education consultation setting out the proposed curriculum content.
There are a number of new proposals within the Ofqual consultation including a proposed change to the GCSE examination. Previously the exam was weighted 80% practical and 20% final written exam. It is now prosed that this changes to 60% practical and 40% final written paper.
Dance UK, the National Dance Teachers Association and Youth Dance England have prepared a briefing report outlining some concerns they have with the proposed changes to assessment.
The closing date to respond to the consultation is 22 September.
The Sport and Recreation Alliance would encourage anyone who has an interest in the teaching of dance to respond.
