Sport England has given a further boost to grassroots sport by awarding more than £12 million over two years to organisations that help get more people active.
Seven specialist sports organisations – Sport England’s National Partners – will receive a share of the funding between 2015 and 2017. The investment is used to support sport governing bodies in equality and diversity, coaching, talent, workforce development and safeguarding children.
The seven sports organisations to benefit from the investment are:
Child Protection Unit in Sport – £992,000
The English Federation of Disability Sport – £2,319,000
Sports Coach UK – £5,000,000
SkillsActive UK – £196,534
Sporting Equals – £1,009,040
SportsAid – £660,000
Women In Sport – £1,505,443
Many of these sporting organisations have received funding from Sport England for more than 10 years – and during that time have worked with the funding body to improve their governance and leadership structures.
The organisations above work with sport governing bodies to impart their individual areas of expertise, providing a consultancy role to help sports recognise and overcome issues.
Nick Bitel, Sport England’s Chair, said: “Investing in our National Partners enables sports’ national governing bodies and other partners to receive bespoke support to help them offer more opportunities and meet their targets to get more people playing sport more often.”
Nick added: “We are confident that these investments can add real value to sport.”
