The Folkestone and Hythe MP has been temporarily chairing the committee since his predecessor Jesse Norman was handed a ministerial role at the Department of Business following the appointment of Theresa May as prime minister.
The Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee is currently presiding over a number of high-profile sports inquiries, including the governance of football, sport stadia accessibility, homophobia in sport and the future of FIFA.
Damian Collins is a strong believer in the power of sport, particularly when it comes to helping young, disenfranchised people, writing in a recent blog that, “Sport cannot provide the answers to all of society’s problems, but in the hands of the right people it can be a powerful tool for engaging young people who have been left behind and fallen into a life of crime.”
