After the recent defeat in the House of Commons over the proposed amendments to the Consumer Rights Bill, The All-Party Parliamentary Group behind the amendments are encouraging the public to pressure their MPs to support the changes.
The amendments to the Bill would have required anyone re-selling a ticket to an event to clearly state the row and seat number, as well as the original purchase price, a move which would have created far greater clarity for consumers.
The All-Party Parliamentary Group have setup a website and Twitter account of @put_fans_first in order to facilitate the discussion around ticket touting and give the public the means to contact their MP.
Discussions between both sides are currently ongoing and that could see an agreement on this matter being reached. In any event, the issue will return to the House of Commons for further debate if the House of Lords backs the measures for the second time when it considers the issue on 24 February.
As part of the drive to put pressure on MPs to back the changes, The All-Party Parliamentary Group, "would like to create as much pressure from both fans and providers of live events, supporting a change in the law on secondary ticketing, especially through members of the public writing to their MPs."
To aid this, a template is available for people to download and send to their MP. They can also find out who their local MP is through the website.
The Alliance, having advocated the proposed amendments throughout, is strongly encouraging members and the wider public to enter the debate and urge their local MPs to back the amendments.
