Social Impact in the Community Award Winner, ‘Dance in the Community’ a Wigan based project by Inspiring healthy lifestyles, were able take 37 young people from the Wigan Borough to watch Giselle at the Palace Theatre in Manchester, in collaboration with Dance Manchester. The group also got the chance to take part in a once in a lifetime opportunity and participate in creative dance workshops courtesy of the English National Ballet Company.
The young dancers all found the experience very positive and it was a great opportunity to get the dances to explore their perceptions of dance.
Pete Burt, Managing Director of Inspiring healthy lifestyles commented: "Programmes like 'Dance in the Community' give young people the chance to be physically active on a regular basis but importantly also open their minds to a live dance experience. We truly believe that working collaboratively with all our partners enables us to deliver innovative ways of engaging young people and believe that opportunities such as the dance workshops with the English National Ballet can make a real difference in enhancing their future."
The winner of the Professional Club Community Programme of the Year Award, has also been busy. Notts County Football in the Community (NCFC FITC) recently hosted their annual community day on the 15 October 2016.
As part of the day, NCFC FITC gave 3,000 free tickets to people from the local community and invited them to head down to Meadow Lane where Notts County faced Crewe. Families and visitors were encouraged to get involved on social media with some brilliant photos taken using their FITC selfie frame!
FITC Events Executive Neil Kelly was delighted with the turn out and the response of the fans to the activities. He said: “We wanted to create a real community feel before the game and hopefully fans felt we did that. It was great to see a constant stream of children enjoying the face-painting, table football, inflatables, and music that we organised.”
Vice President of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, Pat Smith, was able to attend the day and he described it as an “impressive and heart-warming event reflecting valuable work across a host of needs”.
Nominations for the 2017 Community Sport and Recreation Awards will open early next year.
