StreetGames and the Spirit of 2012 are to launch 200 Pop Up Clubs this summer to enable disadvantaged 14-25 year olds to take part in sport.

The Pop up Clubs sessions are hoping to capture the value and spirit of the Commonwealth Games and will help give young people the chance to emulate Commonwealth stars by taking part in athletics, table tennis, and badminton, dodgeball and rugby.

The sports will be brought to peoples’ doorsteps by coming to community halls, leisure centres and parks.

The sessions will take place in communities across the country, from Glasgow to Hastings, Swansea to Southend.

Pop up Clubs are where StreetGames’s local delivery partners stage exciting and new activities that are linked to an event taking place on a national or international stage.

Jane Ashworth OBE, CEO of StreetGames, thinks that the Commonwealth Games will provide the perfect boost to get disadvantaged young people active.

“We know that large sporting events inspire young people to get active, we saw it with the Olympics and Paralympics we are sure to see it with the Commonwealth Games as well.

“At StreetGames we aim to take that inspiration and help it grow into a sporting habit for life, by giving the most disadvantaged young people the opportunity to try different types of sport, get active and even go and see the Games.”
