The Sport and Recreation Alliance is deeply saddened by the death of Honorary Member Cedric Selby.

Appointed an Alliance Honorary Member in October 2013, Cedric also held a role on the Board from 2004-2005, and was a director of our commercial company, Sport and Recreation Ventures Ltd., from 2002-2013.

A passionate advocate of sailing and recreational watersports, Cedric was the representative from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) for our Water Recreation Division, and was also Divisional Chairman. He held a wide variety of roles at the RYA, and made an incredible contribution to both their work and the work of the Alliance over a number of years. The Alliance recognised this with the presentation of the Spirit of Sport and Recreation Award (previously called the Emeritus Award) at St James’s Palace in 2014.

The RYA has written a tribute to Cedric and his outstanding contribution to the organisation, which can be found here.

He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.

Cedric’s funeral will be held at Stockport Crematorium on Monday 20 February at 1pm, and all are welcome.

The thoughts of everyone at the Alliance are with Cedric’s family and friends at this time.
