Alliance welcomes new 10-year Sport England strategy

Alliance welcomes new 10-year Sport England strategy news article image

Reflecting on the announcement, Lisa Wainwright, CEO said: “We applaud the ambition and courage of Sport England in taking the step of announcing a 10-year strategy. This highlights the amount of work that we all face to make sure that every person, from every community has the opportunity to benefit from being physically active.

"Tim Hollingsworth and his team have involved the sector every step of the way during the consultation phase and this is reflected in the honest, insightful and collaborative vision that has been outlined.

"The five big themes raised show the requirement that exists for sport to adapt and serve as a way to improve the health and wellbeing of the nation.

"This current pandemic however, has also reflected the fragility of the sector and we need to make sure that we focus on the sustainability and long-term future of organisations that deliver sport and recreation, so that this 10-year strategy can be delivered.

"The opportunity to recover and reinvent is of primary focus for so many of our members. We will be working with other sectors to normalise and promote the use of activity for all purposes as a priority as we develop a recovery plan for sport and physical activity in the UK.

"Our members should embrace the chance to become a catalyst for change and to use this announcement as an opportunity to create a clear framework for how we want to positively unite to encourage activity.

"As an organisation, the Alliance will be sharing our own vision for the future with the launch of our new strategy in the Spring.

We look forward to working alongside Sport England to fulfil these ambitions and to make sure that physical activity is truly available and enjoyed by everyone.”
