The FIS works with over 110 members, including national governing bodies and local sport partnerships within the Republic of Ireland. Like the Alliance, they work to represent the interests of their members and provide them with a range of supportive services relevant to their respective sports and activities.

The survey is seeking to develop a comprehensive understanding of the views of these members; specifically, where members believe the FIS is succeeding, where it may be able to provide more assistance or add value, the challenges they face and their views on funding and existing government policy.

Recently, the Alliance’s Research and Development team went to Dublin where they had the pleasure of meeting the FIS team to kick off the project. Both project teams enjoyed a productive session, with some useful discussion around the main priorities and aims of the survey.

Richard Boardman, Research and Development Manager at the Sport and Recreation Alliance said:

“This project represents a great opportunity to share ideas and expertise with equivalent organisations overseas.

“It enables us to apply the knowledge gained from our own member survey, and industry best practice to ensure the FIS has the best possible insight and intelligence with which to shape its offer to members.

“Our initial consultation sessions have been very constructive and we look forward to delivering a high quality piece of research"

Clare Louise O’Donoghue, Commercial and Business Services Manager at FIS, added: “We are grateful for the support of the Alliance on bringing this survey to our members.

“This important membership consultation will provide the Federation with the most current feedback on topics such as membership, staffing, governance, funding, the impact of Covid-19 and an evaluation of services provided by the Federation.

“This will enable us as an organisation to understand what the most relevant issues and challenges facing National Governing Bodies and Local Sports Partnerships are. These insights will also assist the Federation in making the best representation to Government on behalf of its members.”
