Alliance launches new event to help you work with Westminster

Taking place on Wednesday 30 June, the virtual conference will provide a platform for anyone who has an interest in politics, policy and sport to learn more about how to influence those in power.

MPs, councillors, expert lobbyists and friends of the sector will share best practice on the ways you can make sure your organisation is well prepared to face the ever-changing policy landscape.

Not only will you be able to pick up useful lobbying tips and advice, but you will also be able to network with Alliance staff, speakers and sector colleagues on three separate occasions throughout the day via our specialist networking platform, provided by Gateley Legal.

We’ve already lined-up a fantastic set of speakers including MP Ben Bradley, the England and Wales Cricket Board’s Head of Public Policy, Hannah Murphy and Sport England policy specialists, Ben Williams and Justine Blomeley.

There will be three action-packed sessions, each one exploring how you can get your voice heard at a time when doing just that has never been more important.

Session one will look at the differences between Whitehall and Westminster and where and when to try and influence. It will also pose the question of whether DCMS is always the answer and why cross-departmental working can be just as effective.

Understanding that you’ll also need support at a local level, our second session will examine why it’s important to stay in contact with your local authority/council, what they can provide you access to and their role in the delivery of sport and physical activity.

The coronavirus pandemic has widened health inequalities and this session will conclude by touching upon how you can work with local government to reverse this concerning trend.

Having spent the morning brushing up your knowledge on the political environment, our afternoon session will assess how to effectively lobby and implement change. You’ll be able to gain a better idea of who exactly to contact and take inspiration from a host of successful campaigns.

You have the ability to engage in the political process and we hope this event will educate you on how this process works and empower you to use your voice, particularly at this crucial time.

Bookings are now open. Sign-up today!

More details and speaker announcements will be released over the coming weeks via our website and social media channels so stay tuned for further information.
