Alliance encourages sector to adopt OK Sun Safety Code

OKSSC is the UK’s only free sun protection resource bank and accreditation scheme. Individuals and groups who are OK accredited will have an improved understanding of how to make sure children enjoy physical activity outdoors without suffering from the negative risks of the sun.

This year OKSSC is focusing on taking action and we want to encourage our members to spread the word about this available resource. We all know that despite good intentions, sun protection doesn’t always make it into our kit bags. This summer we want to make sure coaches and volunteers are empowered with the right knowledge to make sure sun protection is on the kit bag checklist and correctly applied to protect children participating in outdoor activities.

Why?

Melanoma is one of the fastest rising cancers in the UK today and can be sparked by over exposure to the sun, in particular sunburn.  All children should grow-up without the risk of developing this, the most dangerous form of skin cancer, and the best way to achieve this is to take action and help Blow the Whistle on Sunburn!

The Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund; the charity behind the initiative, has launched a campaign to recruit a team of OK Champions to help spread the word on the importance of sun protection and inspire others.  OK Champions will be coaches, volunteers, parents, carers, teachers and young people from all sports, who are keen to help create a healthier core nation.  If would like to know more about OK champions visit oksunsafetycode.com/ok-champion

If you simply want to improve your provision of sun protection to children visit here.
