"I am sorry to hear that Little Stoke parkrun will be closing and that this free, inclusive and accessible event will no longer be available to members of the local community. I am sure the team at parkrun and the Little Stoke volunteers have worked passionately to try and find a solution to this issue.
parkrun is valuable to the community because it gets people active but importantly it also brings people together which helps to break down barriers. It is important that when situations like this face local communities, that everyone works together, like I know the Little Stoke parkrun volunteers did, so that reducing access to sport and recreation doesn’t become an accepted solution.
The Alliance works hard on behalf of our members to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to take part in sport and physical activity. parkrun is an excellent example of how a simple model can be applied to achieve mass participation. Getting the inactive active is important and we will continue to support our members in developing and diversifying how sport and recreation is delivered at a local level. We must continue working with the local community to do this."
