The project, funded by Sport England, comprises two stages. The first stage of the project will focus on producing a suite of GDPR compliant template documents for use by organisations across the sport and recreation sector. The second stage will focus on providing more detailed support to organisations as they seek to become GDPR compliant.
Legal firm Gateley will deliver the first stage of the project, preparing a suite of documents and templates. The templates will be tailored for use by clubs, regional bodies and national governing bodies of sport and will be available to Sport and Recreation Alliance members and the wider sector.
The emphasis of stage two will be on helping organisations identify the data they store, the uses to which they put that data, their legal bases for holding the data and the processes and procedures they need to comply with GDPR.
Adrian Stockman, Director of Corporate Services and Business Development at the Alliance said: “The need for template documentation and support for organisations looking to become GDPR compliant is a theme voiced frequently among our members. We are therefore delighted that Sport England has recognised this need and committed to support us to provide both the materials and more general guidance to help the sector become GDPR compliant.”
He added, “We know that the 25 May deadline for compliance is fast approaching and we are working with Gateley to make sure all of the resources are available before this. However, it is important to note that phase two of this project will extend beyond May as we look to spread data management best practice across the sector.”
Details of the exact resources being prepared will be available soon, with the first batch of templates due for publication on the Alliance website in early April.
Parliamentarians, National Governing Bodies and sector leaders came together in Westminster this week for the inaugural All-Sport All Party Parliamentary Group Reception, hosted by the APPG for Sport and Physical Activity, which the Sport and Recreation Alliance acts as secretariat for.
