The Sport and Recreation Alliance and ukactive have signed up to a new strategic partnership to help get the nation more active, more often.
The Alliance – the umbrella body for sport and recreation – and ukactive – the campaigning body for health and the benefits of physical activity – have launched the partnership with a joint guide outlining how their respective members can operate and benefit from the newly reformed public health landscape.
The guide outlines how changes made to the public health system in England earlier this year have ring-fenced £80 billion of funding locally for the first time.
For the sport, recreation and physical activity sector this means a step-change towards health delivery not just fitness.
The reforms focus strongly on prevention, early intervention and behavioural change to stem the growing financial and societal costs associated with the increase in lifestyle-related chronic conditions.
Tim Lamb, Chief Executive of the Sport and Recreation Alliance said:
“With a combined membership across a hugely diverse range of sports governing bodies, community clubs, physical activity providers, gyms, leisure centres, charities and training providers, the aim of this partnership is to enhance the efforts of both organisations in their desire to encourage wider participation in sport and physical activity.”
David Stalker, Chief Executive of ukactive said:
“By collaborating on our work, we will have a much greater ability to combat the nationwide inactivity epidemic.”
