UK Concussion Guidelines for Grassroots Sport - Learning Webinars

UK Concussion Guidelines for Grassroots Sport - Learning Webinars news article image

In April, the Government and the Sport and Recreation Alliance published the first UK-wide Concussion Guidelines for Grassroots Sport.

The guidelines were introduced to help players, coaches, parents, schools, National Governing Bodies and sports administrators to identify, manage and prevent the issue, with the overall message being – If in doubt, sit them out.

The Alliance is now convening two online learning sessions for its members, the first being an opportunity to hear from the experts behind the guidance, highlighting why the guidelines were introduced and the evidence to support it.

Joining us on Thursday 29 June from 3:30 – 4:30pm will be:

  • Professor James Calder – Chair of the UK Concussion Guidelines Expert Drafting Group
  • Dr Pippa Benett – Director of Clinical Governance / Paralympic Chief Medical Officer – UK Sports Institute
  • Dr Jerry Hill – Chief Medical Advisor, BHA. Honorary Consultant Sports and Exercise Medicine, UKHSA
  • Heather Sinclair – DCMS, Head of Health, Workforce and Diversity

Confirm your place for this event here.

This will be followed by a session which will outline the practical implications of developing your own tailored framework for the activity you deliver. This will also be an online event, hosted from 2pm-3pm on Tuesday 4 July.

To assist you with this, our partners at Howden and Gateley Legal will be on hand to discuss the legal and insurance-based factors when creating specific guidance for your participants.

We will also hear from one of the Alliance’s members who have already taken their first steps in this area as British Cycling present their own Concussion Policy journey.

Book your place for this event here.

To allow us to have the best chance to cover any questions you may have during the sessions, please feel free to share these with us ahead of the event by emailing events@sportandrecreation.org.uk.

International Women's Day: Progress and the Continued Need for Female Leadership in Sport and Recreation

International Women’s Day serves as a reminder of the importance of gender equality, not just in society at large, but in all sectors, including sport and recreation.
