Launched in autumn last year, the initiative enables clubs to bolster their workforce for a period of six months at no cost to club or candidate, with more than 100 sporting organisations to have benefitted from the scheme so far.

The project, which is funded by the Department for Work and Pensions, is also designed to provide unemployed young people with the skills to enhance their personal CV, aiding their progress to gain substantive employment in the wider sector or elsewhere.

It is open to all NGBs and their clubs throughout the UK and there is no requirement for clubs to become affiliated members of the Police Clubs of Great Britain.

The broad criteria to secure funding for employment posts is outlined below.

  • Open to all genders
  • For those aged between 18 and 24 years
  • Currently unemployed/receiving Universal Credits
  • Currently NOT in education
  • Candidates will be expected to carry out 25 hours of employment per week within their club
  • They may or may not be current members of sports clubs

Clubs can nominate one or two individuals for the programme but must be able to demonstrate that the post(s) offered are meaningful and justify paid employment for 25 hours per week.
