Two more illustrious names have been added to the programme for this year’s Sport and Recreation Alliance Leadership Convention.

Author and former Labour Director of Communications and Strategy, Alastair Campbell has been confirmed as the after-dinner speaker, while  Dame Helen Ghosh, Director General of the National Trust and former Permanent Secretary of Defra and the Home Office, will also be sharing her insights from leading the UK's second biggest membership organisation. 

With confirmation of these speakers, the Alliance has extended the early-bird deadline for discounted tickets until 2 September.

Alastair Campbell graduated from Cambridge University in 1979, with a degree in modern languages. He worked as a political editor in the 1980’s before beginning his work for the Labour Party with Tony Blair in 1994. His is also an accomplished author having written ten books in the last seven years.

We are delighted that he will be the after-dinner speaker at the Convention, which this year takes place at the Crowne Plaza Nottingham on 3-4 November. During this session Alastair will draw on his experience of working closely with political leaders as well as his revealing some of the insights he gleaned from interviewing sport, business and political leaders for his new book, Winners.

Some of the people he spoke to whilst writing the book include Jose Mourinho, Floyd Mayweather, Haile Gebrselassie and Barack Obama.

Dame Helen Ghosh, joined the civil service from Oxford University and has worked in a wide range of Government departments, on a diverse array of social policy issues. In the 1990s and early 2000s, Helen worked at the heart of Government, in the Cabinet Office, advising on efficiency and propriety issues. She spent seven years as a Permanent Secretary (CEO) in two departments, Defra and the Home Office.

After a career as a leader in the government and now in the charity sector, Helen will be sharing her perspective on leadership and the lessons she has learned about how – and how not - to be a good leader.

She will talk about the opportunities and challenges associated with leading one of our biggest national charities and the importance of being able to change and adapt in the 21st century.
