As part of the Government Digital Strategy all central government websites – including HMRCs’ – will transition to GOV.UK which will become the single website for all government information and the place to access all government services. This will be of particular interest to those working with sporting charities and CASCs.
Some HMRC material has already moved GOV.UK however much of the public-facing web-content such as charities guidance is now being moved over. It is expected this to be completed during 2014/15.
The intention of the move is to create new content and modifying existing material to make it simpler, clearer and faster for people to use.
Once the content has moved, anyone trying to access guidance on the HMRC website, for example when using a bookmarked link, will be automatically redirected to the new page on GOV.UK. Anything that is no longer needed will still be available on the National Archives site.
HMRC’s existing online services – such as Charities Online and Self Assessment – won’t change as a result of the transition but will be accessed from GOV.UK.
You can see many examples of the new material including advice on Charities and tax and VAT for charities. HMRC has also successfully completed the transition of the following guidance topics including:
• Income Tax
• Self Assessment
• PAYE
• VAT
More information about the transition can be found on the GOV.UK transition blog.
