A group of leisure and fitness employers are working on behalf of the sector to help the Government implement new standard based apprenticeships in 2015. This is as a vital part of the employer-driven Trailblazer strategy.
Back in 2013 the Government announced significant reforms to the way apprenticeships are to be designed and implemented in England and looked to employers to help shape the replacement of the existing frameworks.
The Trailblazer employers (which include several sporta members) will shortly submit their standards to the Skills Funding Agency for formal review (on February 12th). In advance of that, ukactive and CIMSPA are supporting them to garner the views of the sector on the content of the standards.
The standards are being implemented in two phases. In the first, the employers are developing standards for Personal Trainer and Leisure Management roles. However moving forward they will consider numerous areas.
Once the Standard has been through this first review the sector will also start to discuss the development of assessment and delivery methods, at which point there will be further consultations.
At this stage, employers within the fitness and leisure sector are being encouraged to look at the Leisure Manager and Personal Trainer Apprenticeship Standards and to consider if the essential knowledge, skills and behaviours that people in these roles should demonstrate upon completion of a vocational learning programme are covered.
Those wishing to feedback on the standards and help shape the future of employment within the fitness sector should respond to the below surveys.
