The Sport and Recreation Alliance is delighted to welcome Justine Baynes to the Board to fill a casual vacancy.
She began her term on the Board on 1 March 2026, and will finish at the AGM in 2028 when she will be eligible to stand for re-election for a second term.
Justine joins with a wealth of experience in the sector, currently serving as Chief Executive Officer of British Wheelchair Basketball (BWB), the UK’s national governing body for the sport of wheelchair basketball.
With a background spanning the charity, retail and leisure/sport sectors, Justine brings a unique blend of commercial acumen and social purpose to her current role.
She joins at a crucial time for the Alliance, as the organisation begins to implement its new strategy – A United Voice for Sport and Recreation – which was launched last year. As we look to enhance our support for our national governing body members, Justine’s experience in this space will be invaluable to the Board.
On the appointment, Alliance Chair, Dame Janet Beer, said:
“I am thrilled to welcome Justine to the Board, who brings with her a huge amount of knowledge and experience from her time as CEO of British Wheelchair Basketball.
“Her understanding of the sector and previous experience working with the Alliance will be hugely beneficial in this role, and her skills complement those of our existing Board members incredibly well.”
On Monday 16 March, the Alliance joined the Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport, as well as members and sector partners, at 10 Downing Street for a reception celebrating grassroots sport.
