About Us

There has never been a better time to join Essex County FA to play a leading role in the development of the female player pathway. Essex County FA are one year into our 2028 Moving Forward Strategy and are excited to share this exciting role that will work within our highly-regarded football development to develop team-based and recreational female football participation opportunities. The role will focus on developing new and sustainable football opportunities (14+) including Squad Girls Programmes, Just Plays and small-sided football. The successful candidate will work across all 19 Local Authorities with a particular focus in the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham and Newham.

The post-holder will be report to our Football Development Manager and work closely with our Female Pathway Technical Lead. The post will be based at the Association’s Chelmsford Office but there is an expectation that the Officer will spend a lot of time out connecting with partners and initiating activity. The role will involve regular evening and weekend work on that basis. Following a successful probation period there is a hybrid working policy. 

About The Role

Responsibilities will include:

  • Understand what the current adult women's and teenage football landscape looks like in Essex to help identify potential development opportunities
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to support the development and implementation of a female football plan for targeted geographical locations (place-based approach). The role will have a particular focus on the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham and Newham
  • Grow adult womens community football, inclusive of sessional football via Just Play, alongside team-based football across walking football, small-sided football, and flexi leagues
  • Pilot sustainable programmes to support the participation of teenage girls aged 14+ in football ensuring Squad Girls Football participants are retained in the game
  • Identify and engage historically underrepresented groups by working with local relevant partners and community organisations, developing fit for purpose football offers
  • Reference the FA Good Practice Guide on Adult Women's Recreational Football to provide ideas to shape local offers.

The successful candidate will: 

  • Passionate about working in women’s and girls’ football.
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience
  • Relevant sports coaching qualification
  • Ability to work strategically with partner organisations across different sectors to plan and deliver football programmes.
  • Project management skills and experience – to plan, set and achieve objectives to deadlines
  • Excellent IT skills, including the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of inclusion, equality, anti-discrimination and safeguarding
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as required
