About Us

The Golf Foundation is a leading children’s golf charity in Great Britain and Ireland. Our mission is to provide young people with a fun and inclusive introduction to golf, creating regular golfers and teaching valuable life skills.

We deliver projects in schools, community groups and golf facilities, providing adapted equipment, training for teachers and volunteers, funding grants and resources. At the heart of our programmes we teach mental toughness tools and measure their impact on overall mental wellbeing of our young beneficiaries. We have a strong track record of delivery, backed by key organisations in the game such as The R&A, Professional Golfers’ Association and DP World Tour, and supported by external organisations in the form of Sport England and BMW.

Our proactive and dynamic President is Sky Sports Presenter, Nick Dougherty.

About The Role

About You

The Golf Foundation Board is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Trustee who is a qualified and experienced accountant. The successful individual will have a strong background in Finance and be willing to sit on both the main Board of Trustees and Finance Sub-Committee.

We are particularly looking for:

• A relevant accounting qualification.
• Experience of charity accounting and relevant accounting standards.
• Ability to maintain overview of the financial affairs of the charity, ensuring its viability and proper financial records and procedures.
• A confident networker who will bring relevant connections and facilitate introductions for the benefit the charity.
• Experience in working with the Head of Finance, Board and sub-committees.

About the Role

The role of the Board is to supervise the management of the charity's activities and to discharge the responsibilities of the Trustees under the Charities Act.

The Board's main duties are to: 

Lead on Governance; Support operational management and approve the annual operating plan and operating budgets; Supervise risk management and safety matters for the charity; Support the Senior Management Team with fundraising and networking.

The Board consists of the Chair and 11 Trustees, the majority of whom are independent. The Chief Executive and Senior Management Team also attend Board meetings. As an independent Trustee appointed by the Board you would serve an initial three-year term. Those appointed may have the opportunity to stand for two further terms. The Golf Foundation Board currently meets five times a year (in London or virtually) and the total time commitment including these meetings is estimated to be between 10 and 15 days. This role is on a voluntary basis, with travel expenses paid. Trustees are invited to attend Golf Foundation events at The Open and BMW PGA Championship.
