Board and Executive
Closing date: 16th February 2026
Yorkshire Sport Foundation is a National Lottery funded charity working across the nine districts of South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire, and part of a network of England-wide Active Partnerships.
We believe in the power of sport, physical activity and movement to change people’s lives, bring us together and tackle inequalities. We want as many people as possible to enjoy all the benefits being active can bring.
The Board of Trustees monitors, influences and guides the overall direction of the charity, to ensure that it meets its legal and charitable obligations and fulfils its mission and objectives. Our Board is made up of senior, talented leaders with a variety of skills and experience.
The individual appointed will be passionate about sport and physical activity, and be motivated to make a positive difference to the work of the organisation. The successful applicant will also have some experience of an influencing role within a charity, corporate or public sector organisation and excellent communication skills. Equity, diversity and inclusion are core to everything we do and we welcome applications from people from all backgrounds.
We are seeking Trustees to provide expertise in one or more of the following areas:
We are one of 42 Active Partnerships in England, working closely with and primarily funded by Sport England, and a Company Limited by Guarantee with Charitable status.
Our purpose is to encourage more people to be active and play sport and do this through supporting our partners through connecting, influencing and providing opportunities to be active.
A third of us are inactive – as a charity we work closely with partners to help individuals and communities overcome barriers and build healthy habits for life. Our work is increasingly focused in tackling inequalities and reducing inactivity in areas where it is needed most.

Board members will serve on a voluntary basis, although normal expenses will be paid. We have six Board meetings per year and you will be invited to other events and meetings throughout the year.
We recognise and embrace the benefits of having a diverse Board, and see increasing diversity at Board level as an essential element to achieve our stated aims and objectives. A truly diverse Board will include and make good use of differences in the skills, experience, background, race, gender and other qualities of Board member. As a reflection of this commitment we will maintain a balance of no more than 70% of any of these factors.
These differences will be considered in determining the makeup of the Board and be balanced appropriately whenever possible. All Board appointments are made on merit, in the context of the skills and experience required to fulfil its responsibilities.
