About Us

The British Crown Green Bowling Association (BCGBA) is the official governing body for Crown Green Bowling in the UK. Since its establishment, the BCGBA has been dedicated to promoting and preserving this unique and traditional sport, supporting players, clubs, and counties at every level.

Our mission is to grow Crown Green Bowling by providing resources, organising competitions, and fostering a welcoming community for players of all abilities. From setting the rules of the game to delivering coaching and development programs, we ensure the sport continues to thrive for generations to come.

About The Role

The British Crown Green Bowling Association is seeking expressions of interest from individuals who may be willing to support the organisation as Temporary Independent Board Members. Following a number of recent changes in Board membership, BCGBA is seeking to strengthen its immediate governance capacity while the organisation works through its current position and establishes the appropriate longer-term arrangements. We are therefore looking for individuals who could join the Board on a temporary basis, initially for approximately six months. The immediate purpose of these appointments is to provide additional independent judgement, professional expertise and governance oversight, helping BCGBA continue to fulfil its responsibilities while working towards a proper longer-term resolution through its constitutional processes.

Temporary Independent Board Members would be expected to:

• contribute objectively and constructively to Board discussions and decisions;

• exercise independent judgement in the interests of BCGBA and Crown Green Bowls as a whole;

• provide challenge, scrutiny and support to the organisation’s leadership;

• help ensure appropriate governance and organisational oversight during the transitional period; and

• contribute relevant professional knowledge and experience where appropriate.

We would particularly welcome interest from people with experience in areas such as:

• organisational governance and Board leadership;

• finance, audit and risk;

• legal, regulatory or compliance matters;

• people, HR and organisational development;

• commercial development and organisational sustainability;

• sport, membership organisations or the voluntary sector; and

• organisational change and dispute resolution.

Previous involvement in Crown Green Bowls is not essential. Indeed, an external perspective and the ability to approach issues objectively would be particularly valuable. We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate sound judgement, integrity, an ability to work collectively and a willingness to operate constructively in an organisation experiencing significant change. These appointments are intended to be temporary. They are not designed to determine or pre-empt the longer-term governance structure of BCGBA or replace any future appointment processes required under the Association’s Bye-Laws. Individuals appointed will receive an appropriate induction and a clear explanation of the current organisational and governance context before taking up the role. BCGBA arranges Directors and Officers Liability insurance to protect the personal liability of all Board members.
