Table Tennis England are the governing body of table tennis in England, responsible for representing, co-ordinating, administering, marketing and developing the sport in close co-operation with related bodies such as British Para Table Tennis (BPTT).

 

About The Role

The England Talent Coach (London) role is a significant opportunity for an individual based in or around the London area who believes they can support players to build the appropriate technical, tactical, and behavioural skills in order to excel upwards into the next phase of the talent pathway. We recognise London as a key hotspot for developing talent and see the value in placing a coach in this setting that can further add to the great work that is taking place. This role will involve delivery across two main sites but may also include delivery at further London based
environments. There will also be at times, a responsibility to support national activity. The primary aim of the role is to work closely in a group and one-to-one setting with England’s most promising U13 players who are either currently in or have the potential to feed into the England Futures squad. It is likely that the role will involve significant evening work and a requirement to be flexible.

Key responsibilities 

  • Deliver (or co-deliver) sessions on a weekly basis in identified pathway development centre environments in the London area (Greenhouse Pathway Development Centre & London Academy Pathway Development Centre)
  • Work with PDCs to establish appropriate times to deliver one-to-one support with the most promising players in these environments
  • Monitor and report back on the progress of players within the Pathway Development Centres (PDCs) using identified metrics
  • Support the delivery of the national PDC competition and camp programme (delivered at the Elite Training Centre in Sheffield)
  • Work collaboratively with the England Talent Pathway team to deliver an identified package of educational support to PDCs in the London area
  • Attend localised talent competition to ensure talent is not missed
  • Support the recruitment of players into London PDCs by fostering relationships with clubs in the area
  • Work on a one-to-one basis with identified England futures squad players in their home environments in the London area
  • Organise and deliver talent identification events that will support recruitment into PDCs
  • Work with the England Talent Pathway Team on special talent coaching projects in the London area (e.g., girls pathway activity)
  • Work closely with the England Talent Pathway team to develop further support and development opportunities for talented players in the London area
  • Work closely with the National Futures coach to ensure clear communication of the expectations and opportunities open to players within the network
  • Work closely with the National Futures coach to identify and review the progress of London based England Futures squad players and identify players suitable to transition into the squad
  • Ensure that PDCs have a laser focus on producing players with the potential to transition up the pathway aged 8-13
  • To lead and uphold the performance, behavioural, and training standards of the pathway
  • Any other talent activity at the request of the Head Pathway Development
  • Support with the delivery of coach development activity in the talent space within London, working collaboratively with Table Tennis England’s Coach Developer.

About You 

Previous Experience

  • Significant national (or international) high-level experience in table tennis
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the technical, tactical skills, and physical fundamentals required for players to succeed at international level, particularly in under 13 players
  • Significant experience of delivering coaching activity in a talent environment
  • Experience of managing relationships with key stakeholders in a talent environment (e.g., parents)
  • A genuine commitment to enhance ones coaching through researched and data driven knowledge
  • Ability to promote and foster a team culture reflecting the organisation’s values and goals
  • Experience or knowledge of table tennis in London is desirable but not essential

Contract

This role is a one-year contract and will be reviewed one year after employment. Part time roles will be considered.
