Board and Executive
Closing date: 7th January 2026
Bowls England is the National Governing Body for flat green bowls in England. We play a leadership role, act as our sport’s ultimate custodian and govern activity within our sport. Bowls England has a clear mission – to promote and develop the sport of bowls so it enriches the lives of its participants, connects communities and is in good health for future generations.
Our ‘Fit for the Future’ strategy demonstrates this through these five areas:
• Building the brand of bowls by increasing focus on international & top domestic bowls and utilizing opportunities such as Glasgow 2026 to achieve larger media coverage.
• Ensuring the sport is truly accessible to all by offering different formats of the game which suit all time constraints, as well as driving more people to clubs in new ways.
• Creating positive playing experiences for everyone who steps on the green, both for casual and competitive players, as well as growing our events calendar and introducing a Performance Pathway
• Putting volunteers first, as the lifeblood of our sport, by increasing our support for clubs in order to empower them to thrive.
• Leading the sport with purpose by developing our Governance structures, diversifying our revenue streams, and work collaboratively with all the sport’s key stakeholders.
The Presidential Team
The Bowls England Presidential Team plays an important ambassadorial role for the organisation, enhancing the reputation and standing of the organisation. The team is responsible for representing Bowls England at events, presenting its values and activities in a positive light by engaging with a cross-sectional of stakeholders, particularly those within the bowls family.
The Presidential team comprises of the President as figurehead, supported by six Vice Presidents – one for each of the six regions across England.
The President is the senior ambassadorial figure within the organisation. It is a position of high standing and offers a unique role to help develop the sport at a national level. The President does not have an executive role but acts on behalf of the organisation in a diplomatic manner by advocating the virtues of the sport, and Bowls England, to bowlers, clubs, county associations and other stakeholders, listening to their views and facilitating the strategic development of Bowls England as described above. The roles of the President and the six regional Vice-Presidents will each require a typical time commitment of around 10-15 days a year but some flexibility is expected. Candidates should be aware that participation in major events, including the Commonwealth Games and World Championships, may necessitate additional days to fully support Bowls England’s initiatives.
Tenure: Three years (2026-9). Can be re-elected for a second three-year term.
Remuneration: The Presidential role is voluntary; however, we provide an allowance of £2,000 per annum to cover expenses. Bowls England kit will also be supplied.
Method of application
Applicants must complete the application form describing how they fulfil the skills and experiences required.
In addition to this, applicants are required to submit a 1-2 minute video to support their application. A video application provides candidates with the opportunity to demonstrate their communication skills, professionalism, and personality in a more dynamic format than a written application. It allows voters the opportunity to assess intangible qualities such as presence, enthusiasm, and cultural fit, offering a more comprehensive evaluation of the candidate.
Selection
The Presidential position is member-elected. Your application must be supported by a full member (County Association or Board Member) who must sign the relevant section in the application form.
Application forms and videos of candidates will be passed to the County Associations and Board Members for their vote on Monday 12th January. Votes will close on Monday 2nd February at 5:00pm. The candidate with the most votes will be contacted shortly afterwards and will commence their term at the AGM on Saturday 21st February 2026.
