About Us

Greenhouse Sports has partnered with an Alternative Provision (AP) setting in East London to deliver an innovative youth development programme that combines sport, mentoring and personal development to support young people who may face additional barriers to engagement. As a Multi-Sports Coach Mentor, you will be embedded within the provision as a valued member of staff, delivering the Greenhouse Sports model while building positive relationships with young people on a daily basis.

The programme brings together:

  • Multi-sports coaching
  • Positive Youth Development
  • One-to-one mentoring
  • Small-group interventions
  • Personal development
  • Enrichment opportunities
  • Employability activities
  • Creative engagement projects
  • As a mentor and trusted adult, you will support young people to develop confidence, resilience and the social, emotional, thinking and physical skills that underpin long-term success.

This role is ideal for someone who understands the power of relationships and believes in every young person's potential. You will empower young people through a strengths-based, inclusive and trauma informed approach, helping them develop confidence, broaden their horizons and thrive. In addition to a love of sports, we are particularly interested in candidates who can bring creativity into their practice through approaches such as movement, photography, storytelling, digital media, art or project-based learning. These activities can provide additional ways for young people to express themselves, build positive relationships and experience success.

About The Role

Role Overview

You will deliver Greenhouse Sports' year-round, fulltime programme, leading a varied and engaging offer designed to meet the needs of the young people in this alternative provision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver our curriculum based on Positive Youth Development in all sessions, showcasing inclusive environments.
  • Review and learn with the ability to adapt to the needs of the young people so that we always have the young people's best interest at heart.
  • Monitor and report the progress of the programme you deliver, understanding its goals and targets, with the strategic vision of the charity.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with staff, school staff, young people and their support networks.
  • Work with your Coach Development Manager to review your performance and quality of delivery.
  • Complete administrative duties, e.g. coach plans, risk assessments, and HR tasks.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding our young people, ensuring a child safety-focused approach at all times.

Skills & Experience

  • Adaptable and resilient in a dynamic mission-driven environment.
  • NGB Level 2 coaching qualification preferred.
  • Clear understanding of Positive Youth Development through sport.
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to work well with others.
  • Up to date knowledge of Safeguarding & Child Protection principles and good practice.
  • Skilled in portraying yourself professionally as a role model and mentor to young people at all times.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to plan, long-term, mid-term and short-term.
  • Able to remain positive and professional when in challenging situations and environments.

Further Information

Why this role is different

This is not a traditional sports coaching role. Sport is often the starting point, but the relationship is what makes the difference. While coaching will form an important part of your role, no two days are the same. You may use sport, creativity, mentoring or enrichment opportunities to build a weekly timetable that works for the young people you engage.

Your week could include:

  • Delivering a sports session focused on teamwork, communication and leadership.
  • Running a walk and talk intervention exploring emotional regulation and resilience.
  • Delivering one-to-one mentoring sessions with young people requiring additional support.
  • Supporting students to complete a creative project exploring identity, aspirations or community.
  • Using fun activities to build confidence, selfexpression and positive relationships. Leading an enrichment visit designed to broaden horizons and create new experiences.
  • Supporting a young person to re-engage following a period of non-attendance or low engagement
  • Working alongside teachers, pastoral teams, families and external agencies to maximise positive outcomes.
  • Reflecting on progress, celebrating achievements and helping young people identify their next steps.
