We are a Greater Manchester charity and across our city region, we play a strategic leadership role in support of the GM Moving in Action strategy. Nationally, we are one of 43 active partnerships; a network across the country who work collaboratively to create  the conditions for an active nation. We also work closely with Sport England to support the local implementation of the Uniting the 
Movement Strategy.  

We were formally known as GreaterSport, and on 1st of September 2023 we became Greater Manchester Moving (we are still registered as Greater Manchester Sports Partnership). This updated name better reflects our long-term ambitions for Greater Manchester and will enhance our efforts to deliver the shared GM Moving in Action strategy with partners.

Greater Manchester Moving (GM Moving) is the Active Partnership for Greater Manchester. We are a charity with a clear purpose to change lives through movement, physical activity and sport. We lead, support and connect people and partners across the system to develop and deliver on the whole system vision and approach to the shared GM Moving in Action strategy.

About The Role

We are seeking a talented finance officer to join the team at Greater Manchester Moving where purpose, passion and integrity are at the heart of all we do. The successful candidate will be experienced in providing high quality transactional finance support and used to working within a busy finance team. 

The ideal candidate will have experience working as part of a busy finance team providing high quality financial support to colleagues and stakeholders. This is a mainly transactional finance role including purchase and sales ledger processing as well as maintaining the cashbook and performing bank reconciliations.

This role includes: 

  • Maintaining the purchase and sales ledgers by posting purchase invoices, payments, expenses and credit card transactions.  
  • Performing credit control duties to ensure prompt payment by customers. 
  • Performing monthly bank reconciliations and updating cashbook, sales and purchase ledgers. 
  • Supporting the procurement process by raising purchase orders, setting up new suppliers and obtaining budget holder approvals. 
  • Supporting the Finance and Business Operations Team with administrative tasks 

Your Responsibilities: 

  • Maintaining the purchase ledger by posting purchase invoices, credit notes and payments, reconciling supplier statements and resolving any queries.
  • Raising and sending Purchase Orders as requested matching to purchase invoices and obtaining approval for payment.
  • Setting up new suppliers in line with the procurement policy.
  • Posting staff expenses to the finance system weekly.
  • Maintaining the sales ledger by raising any sales invoices as requested and posting and allocation of remittances. Sending copy invoices, statements and payment requests for any overdue sales invoices.
  • Performing a monthly bank reconciliation for current accounts and ensuring all entries are recorded correctly in the finance system on a weekly basis.
  • Performing periodic bank reconciliations for other accounts to ensure interest and charges are accounted for.
  • Reconciling monthly credit card statements and posting transactions to the finance system.
  • Assisting the Specialist Finance Lead with month end adjustments and posting journals as required.  
  • Provide day-to-day finance support to non-finance colleagues.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and external stakeholders and embodying the values of Greater Manchester Moving.
  • Any other task that can be reasonably expected within this role. 

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • AAT holder or working towards a professional accounting qualification
  • At least 12 months experience working as part of a Finance Team 
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral  
  • Good analytical skills
  • Ability to work with high levels of accuracy 
  • Experience in communicating with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Knowledge of and experience using an accounting package, e.g., QuickBooks, and strong IT skills working with Microsoft Office, including a good working knowledge of Excel. 
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work within deadlines
  • Experience and knowledge of Charity accounting will be an advantage 

Further Information

Hours: This is a part-time role (22.2 hours per week), and the 22.2 hours can be worked in 3 days or spread out as shorter days across the week as part of our commitment to flexible working. This is a hybrid role with some home working, but we require at least 2 days to be office based with one of those days being a Tuesday.

Location

We have permanent office space in the National Squash Centre in Manchester, and regular team and co-working days in venues across Greater Manchester.

Salary

£29,572 - £32,115 p.a. (pro rata £17,743 – £19,269 p.a.). Salary to be at entry-level except for exceptional circumstances. 

Contract

3-year fixed term (to 31 March 2028)
