Red Card to Red Tape launched

Red Card to Red Tape launched news article image

The Sport and Recreation Alliance has today, 22 March, published Red Card to Red Tape – How sports clubs want to break free from bureaucracy, a report into the regulatory burden on sport and recreation clubs. The Review was commission by the Minister for Sport and the Olympics, Hugh Robertson MP, and will feed into the Government’s wider review of regulation being conducted by the Cabinet Office.

The Minister hosted a launch event in Parliament which was attended by numerous MPs and Peers, as well as representatives of our members. The event featured speeches from the chair of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, Brigid Simmonds OBE, commentator and former England rugby union international and guest of honour Brian Moore, and Hugh Robertson himself.

Following the Review, the Sport and Recreation Alliance will continue to campaign for improved conditions for sport and recreation clubs. Its next step is to review the Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASC) scheme and re-launch it from a national governing body (NGB) perspective this summer. The re-launch will coincide with the 6,000th club becoming a CASC, by which time £100m will have been saved as a result of the scheme.

Full copies of the Review, as well as the Executive Summary and the press release are available to download. Please bear in mind the large file size of the Review.

The Review was funded by a grant from the Foudation for Sport and the Arts.
