The Sport and Recreation Alliance will be represented on the start line by one of our very own leading women, Director of Marketing, Communications and Member Engagement – Chantel Scherer.
As a former PGA golf professional, Chantel will be swapping her golf spikes for her running shoes this weekend as she continues to advocate physical activity for everybody.
Chantel is a firm supporter in the drive to increase female participation. She said: “I owe my career to sport and recreation, from my time as a golf professional through to my recent passion of boxing, physical activity has played a central role in my life.
“We know that there remain huge inequalities in participation and this is one of the reasons why I will be practicing what I preach and completing my first parkrun on Saturday.”
Parkrun, the popular volunteer-led initiative, has joined forces with This Girl Can and Sport England to welcome as many girls and women as possible to walk, run, jog or volunteer during the 5km event.
Research shows that, despite the fact females make up 54% of registrations, they are less likely than men to take part in parkrun and to continue participating. IWD parkrun is a fantastic opportunity to encourage more women and girls to participate in parkrun events worldwide.

In need of some inspiration? Watch the video below and hear from Claire from Telford parkrun who explains why you shouldn’t be nervous and why the environment is so supportive irrespective of whether you run, jog or walk.
Put Saturday 7 March in your diaries and bring a family member, friend or colleague along with you to share in the fun. Let's help parkrun make this a celebration to remember!
UK sports bodies invested a record £197.9m of broadcast revenues over the last year to grow their sport and support grassroots delivery.
