It is with immense sadness that the Sport and Recreation Alliance learned of Andy Sutch’s passing last week, and we send our deepest condolences to Andy’s family and friends.
Andy was a tremendous advocate for sport and recreation throughout his distinguished career. He held the position of Regional Director for London at Sport England, an organisation for which he worked for over 20 years.
As well as this, he played a pivotal role in one of the country’s most significant sporting events of this century, working on secondment to the successful 2012 Olympic Games Bid team until 2005 from his role at Business in Sport and Leisure.
Many of our members also benefited from Andy’s expertise; he has chaired the Rugby Football Union, been appointed to the Board of London Sport by the Mayor of London, and for over 25 years, has represented the London Federation for Sport and Recreation. His support of the Alliance and our members over many years has been invaluable, as has his knowledge and passion for his work.
Lisa Wainwright MBE, CEO of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, paid tribute to Andy Sutch:
“I started learning from Andy in my first role at Sport England – his guidance, advice, mentorship and kindness has continued since those very early days in my career. He seemed to always know where to connect and always, always kept the outcome at heart – one of the most passionate advocates I have had the absolute pleasure to learn from and work alongside. It was wonderful to see him late last year at the Alliance’s AGM at St. James’s Palace. He will be sadly missed – but his ethos, values and knowledge continues in so many across the sector.”
