The Sport and Recreation Alliance congratulates its members and Team GB for an incredibly successful Games in Milano Cortina.
With a five-medal haul including three golds, a silver and a bronze, it was the most successful Games in British history. These impressive performances have captured the public’s attention, with over 20 million viewers tuning into the BBC’s coverage during the first week of the Games, according to the European Broadcasting Union.
Reacting to the Games, Lisa Wainwright MBE said:
“On behalf of everyone at the Alliance, I would like to congratulate everyone at Team GB, and our fantastic members for delivering such a spectacular performance at this Winter Olympic Games.
“An incredible amount of hard work across a four-year cycle from athletes, coaches, and officials from national governing bodies goes into the performances that we’ve been lucky enough to witness over the past few weeks, and it is important that we recognise this achievement.
“I’m certain that a whole new generation will have been watching these athletes and getting inspired by British athletes to take part in skiing, snowboarding, skating, curling, or any of the other fantastic sports that were on show.
“We now look forward to the Paralympics in just over a week’s time and will be cheering on our athletes once again as they showcase their amazing talent.”
Newly-appointed Chair of the Alliance’s NGB Coalition Division, Ralph Rimmer OBE, said:
“The work that national governing bodies put into each Olympic cycle is enormous, and I’d like to congratulate all of them on a remarkably successful Winter Olympics.
“In the NGB Coalition Division, we will be looking to identify key priorities for governing bodies across the sports sector and ensuring that the Alliance works to support these organisations as best it can. This will enable our NGBs to continue to deliver outstanding performances on the international stage, as well as encouraging the next generation of athletes to get involved in sport.”
