The Arthur Bell Trophy is presented each year to the individual or organisation that is deemed to have made an outstanding contribution to the development of community sport. Last year the Trophy was presented to Lawrence Dallaglio OBE, for his contribution to sport in the community including as the founder of the Dallaglio Foundation and other recipients have included Lord Smith of Kelvin KT, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Baroness Sue Campbell CBE, Sir Bobby Charlton CBE, Lord Sebastian Coe CH KBE and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh KG KT.
The Emeritus Award has been in existence for over ten years and is awarded for life-long or sustained service to sport and recreation or for long service to the Alliance. Last year this was presented to Michael De Georgio, founder and outgoing CEO of the charity Greenhouse Sports and Alan Sommerville OBE, for his outstanding contribution that he had made to the sport of Gymnastics before his retirement. Other recipients include Allan Dean-Lewis MBE [Motor Sports Association], Phillip Kimberley [past Chairman of England Hockey], and Sir Hugh Robertson KCMG.
The Sport and Recreation Alliance is encouraging all its members to consider nominating individuals for both the Emeritus Award and Arthur Bell Trophy. The winner of each will be presented with their award by HRH The Earl of Wessex alongside the five category winners of our Community Sport and Recreation Awards at a celebratory event on Tuesday 11 July at SOAS University of London.
The Alliance would welcome nominations from all sections of the community.
Please note that, unless you are an Alliance Honorary Member of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, your nomination will need endorsement by your organisation and we shall contact the relevant person [according to our records] on your behalf. If you are an Honorary Member, you may submit a nomination without the need for this endorsement.
These should be received no later than 12 noon on Monday 27 March 2017.
