This is an Alliance Members only virtual roundtable event, which will bring together key stakeholders from sport and recreation organisations to discuss the importance, implementation, and long-term benefits of Diversity and Inclusion Action Plans (DIAPs).
This session will cover the importance of a DIAP, how you can create your own DIAP which is proportionate and suits your organisation needs and benefits of including an action plan. You can also expect practical tips on creating and maintaining a DIAP.
What is a DIAP: A Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) is a structured framework designed to promote equitable representation of individuals from diverse backgrounds. It outlines specific goals, policies, and strategies to create an inclusive environment, ensuring that all individuals, regardless of race, gender, disability, socioeconomic status, or other factors, have fair opportunities to engage in sport and recreation activities.
Why Is It Important to Have a DIAP: Most organisations now have an EDI policy. A DIAP is a strategic framework which works alongside an EDI policy. An EDI policy is a formal document that sets out an organisation’s commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion. It provides guiding principles and legal obligations, ensuring compliance with anti-discrimination laws and fostering a fair and respectful environment. However, it does not always include specific, detailed action steps like a DIAP. Therefore, a DIAP helps organisations to monitor and track their EDI progress annually.
How a DIAP Helps Sport and Recreation Organisations: For sport and recreation organisations, DIAPs are instrumental in creating a more welcoming and accessible environment. These plans support organisations by:
