What was the volunteering opportunity and how many places were there to fill?
“The Fed Cup is the largest annual international team competition in women’s sport. The competition takes place between Tuesday 6 and Friday 9 February and we needed to recruit a team of over 100 volunteers to help deliver what is Britain’s first home Fed Cup tennis tie in over 25 years”.
How did you hear about the Alliance’s Volunteer Finder?
“Having used the Join In website [the predecessor to the Volunteer Finder] to recruit volunteers in the past, it was an easy decision to use the new platform. We were looking for passionate individuals to create a wonderful atmosphere and memorable experience for the thousands of fans that will come to watch and are really pleased with the quality of volunteer we’ve recruited from the site.”
How did the recruitment process work for you and what will your volunteers be doing?
“Once the opportunity went live, over 200 people quickly registered their interest. Using the Alliance’s platform helped us to attract a broad range of applicants with different skills, backgrounds and interests to create a diverse and effective volunteer team.
“Our volunteers will cover several public-facing roles, including court stewarding, ticket checking, meet’n’greeting and wayfinding. All our volunteers will get the chance to experience a different role or position each shift they volunteer on, under the direction and supervision of a member of our dedicated volunteer management team”.
Would you recommend this platform as a way of clubs, event organisers and national governing bodies recruiting volunteers?
“Absolutely! I think it’s important to promote volunteering opportunities as far and wide as possible. The platform was straightforward to use, and it didn’t take long to get our profile set up. I would certainly recommend that other organisations who need volunteers, whether for their local club or a major international event, give it a go.”
