Sport and Recreation Alliance statement: Volunteering Strategy

We are excited by Sport England’s vision for and commitment to invest in volunteering as outlined in Volunteering in an Active Nation released today. The Alliance has always recognised through our members that volunteers play a vital role in sport and recreation. It is the one thing that all the different types of sport and physical activity have in common. And without volunteers, sport and recreation just wouldn’t happen.

In September we were handed the baton from the Join In Trust and we are delighted to be working in partnership with Do-it, GLL, Jump, Volunteering Matters and VolunteerKinetic to continue to focus on sport volunteering.

Because of the importance of volunteering to sport and recreation we have come together under a shared vision to make volunteering in sport more accessible and appealing to a more diverse range of people. We want to see more people bringing their professional skills and experience into sport and recreation and we want them to feel that their effort to help others is valued and that they benefit from being involved.

Our vision for sport volunteering fits well with Volunteering in an Active Nation. We welcome the support in the strategy to working with us and our partners to develop an effective matching service that will make it as easy as possible for people and clubs which need volunteers to find each other.
