New transitional management team appointed at CIMSPA

The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) has appointed a transitional management team responsible for transforming the organisation.

CIMSPA is the chartered professional development body for the sport and physical activity sector in the UK and was launched in 2011.

The new transitional management team will be exclusively focused on delivering the substantial change and ambition captured in the business plan – approved by its members in November 2013 – to see the institute become the strategic lead for professional development.

In doing so, the team will establish a number of new membership services including a mentoring programme, technical guidance for the sector, regional networks and a CPD programme amongst others.

Commenting on CIMSPA’s announcement, Sallie Barker, interim Chief Executive of the Sport and Recreation Alliance said:

“This is an important step not just for CIMSPA but for the whole sector. CIMSPA can play an important role in the sports world and we’re glad that they are making these steps.

“There is a good, strong shared agenda with the Alliance and we’re already talking to CIMSPA about how we can work together on governance, on leadership and management, and co-ordination in our sector. We both understand what one another is trying to achieve and that will be a solid foundation for our work.

“We’ll be trying to dovetail the work of the two organisations so that our members can really feel the benefit of a joined-up sector.”
